Title: The Norther

Serial/Edition # 2264

Registered with The New England Collectors Society

Frederic Remington's "The Norther" has been recreated in cold-cast bronze in a one-third size reproduction.  These limited edition sculptures are serially numbered, hallmarked and registered with the New England Collectors Society.  Once the 9500th edition has been created, the wax molds used to create them will be destroyed and no new sculptures will ever be produced.

The Norther, was the only one of Frederic Remington's cowboy sculptures to depict the horse with all four feet on the ground, literally frozen in place. This actionless antihero was a marketplace flop from its inception, although it is now considered one of Remington’s finest works.

Remington is known as one of the premier artist of the American West. During the 1880s, he traveled through the Dakotas, Montana, the Arizona Territory, and Texas, returning to New York in 1885, with the desire to record the vanishing wilderness. In 1895, he began to exhibit his bronzes of cowboys and horses in motion. After 1900, his illustrative style shifted to one of Impressionism, as he became influenced by the work of Monet, Childe Hassam, and John H. Twatchman. In addition to his paintings and sculpture, he wrote eight books and numerous short stories on the Wild West.
